This one day class is designed for Animal Welfare Professionals, disaster responders, first responders, veterinary professionals and anyone else who must deal with or come in contact with animals in the course of their duties. As long as bio-terrorism and foreign animal disease remain a threat, there will be a need for current factual information so that persons working around animals will be knowledgeable and stay safe from this ever-present threat.

This class will cover specific diseases that could be used in bio-terrorism and the commonly encountered organisms that may be hazardous to humans and other animals. Emphasis will be placed on what is normal and how to recognize what is abnormal. Personal Protective equipment and bio-security will be demonstrated.

Course instructor Charlotte Robinson, DVM is a veterinarian with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. She is the state epidemiologist and the staff veterinarian for animal welfare and animal disease.

The course is P.O.S.T.-certified through the University of Missouri's Law Enforcement Training Institute and has been approved for technical C.E.U.'s by the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians.
