The Equine Investigations Academy is designed for anyone at the federal, state or local levels who deals with equine activities. This can include animal control officers, police officers and sheriff's deputies, humane society cruelty investigators, mounted patrol officers, equine rehabilitation groups and other individuals interested in learning a systematic approach to equine abuse investigations. As part of this 40 hour academy, students will split their time approximately 50/50 between classroom and hands-on. Included in the curriculum are sections on equine psychology, behavior & analysis, identification, nutrition, body condition scoring, interview & interrogation, veterinary care, foot & leg care, vital signs, cardiac recovery index, disaster preparedness, loading and trailering, search & seizure and evidence collection. Every second year a Level II is offered that provides further instruction in photography, evidence collection, specific problems found with auctions, equine sports abuses, collectors/hoarders and pseudo rescues, more in-depth anatomy, first aid and large scale impounds.
