The Animal Disaster Responder Academy is designed for federal, state and local disaster officers and volunteers who respond to the needs of animals during manmade and natural disasters. The courses within this academy will give instruction on working with companion animals, livestock and exotic animals in a safe manner. The topics covered will include work in fire, flood water, rope rescue, hazardous materials, biosecurity situations, animal sheltering and personal and team safety.
This academy consists of three levels, each having 40 hours of instruction. There are 80 hours of required classes with the remaining 40 hours coming from approved electives to complete the 120 hours. Individual courses can be taken within the offered weeklong sessions. All classes meet or exceed NFPA and NWCG training standards.
The ADR faculty may include Dean A. Hendrickson D.V.M., Charlotte J. Robinson D.V.M., Jim Boller, Kurt Cruickshank, Kim Little, Nan M. Stuart and Eric Thompson.
